So Much for First Place

What depressing showing from my Buffalo Bills. They surrendered first place with a 38-17 loss to the Oakland Raiders. To start the game they looked to be firing on all cylinders over the first two drives. First they put up a seven spot on the opening possession, with Holcomb connecting with Evans for his first TD of the season. Then they forced the Raiders into a three and out on the following drive. However, from that point on, the match belonged to the silver and black.

The D played terrible, and nearly inspired me to pull out my hair. Giving up huge runs, and third and longs. Very very terrible showing.

On the other side of the ball, the NFL’s self proclaimed “best running back” was highly ineffective in this game. He gained a grand total of 50 yards on 16 carries. Maybe he should let his performance do the talking and not give opposing teams bullpen material.

Kelly Holcomb had an ok if unspectacular game throwing for 157, going 19 for 27. And Josh Reed chipped in with his first TD reception.

Is it just me of do the Bills not seem like a play off team? When I think of a play-off team, I think of a team with a good D, a solid running back, and a QB who can make plays. This game, the Bills displayed none of these. 2 out of three would have been great.

The big test comes next week when the Bills visit New England to taek on Tom Brady and the now first place Patriots. It starts at 8:15, which is great since I work till 6 and won't have to miss the biggest game of the season so far.

Hockey Night in Canada

The Toronto Maple Leafs, after winning in OT against the Hurricanes on Thursday night, laid an egg on Saturday. They were upended by the Philadelphia Flyers, 5-2 at the ACC, in what was the worst game thus far by the Leafs. Leafs did not help their own cause by giving up 8 man advantages to only 4 by the Flyers.

Though it was a lack luster performance, I must say that this Leafs team has impressed me thus far. And that this was by far the worst game I have seen the Leafs play. They are now 4-2-0-2, good enough for 2^nd last in a tough north east division.

Raptors Pre Season

The Raptors have rebounded form a disappointing start to the preseason with two straight wins. One, an OT win over Vince Carter and the Nets, followed up by a win over the Boston Celtics.

So far, Rob Babcock’s off-season acquisitions have looked pretty good. Jose Calderon has drawn positive reviews in his pass first style of play. Villanueva has impressed with his smoothness and natural ability on the offensive end of the court. And 16^th overall Pick Joey Graham returned from the DL to post 20 pts, and neutralizing Paul Pierce, in the Raps win over the Celts.

Most remarkable perhaps is the presence of actual positive press regarding Babcock and the Raptors. This for a team that has not only had been bashed for years by most members of the Toronto media. But, has also been projected by many experts to finish near the basement of the NBA standings.

In other news, my fantasy baseball team, the Waterloo Gators has advanced to the semi finals after a sweep in the second round. We face the B-Dawgs Untouchables in a seven game set to see what team gets to represent the Jenkins Association for TBGBL supremacy.

First Post

Hello, My name is Ryan Cain and this is my first post. This is my first blog, and I am very excited. Long term I would like to open up my own independent blog, however, this is currently my best option given time and financial restraints.

I would like to say a little bit about myself. I am 21 years old, and am a student of the University of Waterloo. I am taking Psychology, with a minor in speech communication. I hope to go to grad school, and perhaps get my PHD. Well see about that though.

In this blog I would like to talk mainly about sports. My subject matter will revolve mainly around my favorite teams: Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, and the Buffalo Bills.

Hopefully I can post fairly regularly, and you enjoy reading what I have to say. Your feed back is welcome and would be much appreciated.
